Some people are good at dating. Not me. I was never good at it. I like reading Anne Lamott’s mishaps with dating. Her sense of humor and irony, her doubt and willingness… Her unwillingness to forsake herself, even when everything is rocky as hell, including herself. I love Anne Lamott.
It’s not like I wouldn’t like to be in a relationship. It just hasn’t happened in a kazillion years, but who’s counting? My mother thinks I’m too choosy. How can she say that?? I fall in love with a million things every day. The beauty of things — people for starters. Art. Architecture. All things nature, especially up against the pavement. Colors. Black and white. Babies and kids. Old people. Shopkeepers. Things I hear and read — music and words. The quality of air on a light-filled day. The beauty AND taste of food, the work that goes into creating it. Great conversation with a friend. Collaborations (work and play). Appreciating others’ struggles leading to small or large victories, or for the time being, nowhere.
Oh. She meant a man?
I signed up for OK Cupid eons ago. Because it’s free and I can’t figure out how to take myself off and because you-never-know. I continue to be a reluctant participant. I know. I know. Not a great attitude. Online, I don’t go looking (too depressing) but occasionally I get a “message”. The other day I got this one. At least he didn’t post a picture of himself standing bare-chested next to his ginormous motorcycle, and probably gun.
Hello like your smile, would like to know more about you but meanwhile, my name is Shawn I live in Albany in new York and I’m really interested in knowing you well…
OK Cupid says we’re a 46% match. Really? That much? I look at his profile:
My self-summary
30years in active service has taught me a lot, the days I looked forward and the road is unending, you can’t just quit even when you can’t see your family and friends in times of war,and in times of peace you are still obeying the last command till this very moment someone is taking his last breath,I know for sure that I will answer someday, but I look up to God for a brighter day,but while I await that better and a brighter day, once a soldier will always be a soldier.soldier go soldier come but barrack remain.Till I’m retired,I’m still in active service at.Don’t ask me when, ask me how and just thank God…..
What I’m doing with my life
Working to sanity in this world….
I’m really good at
Hunting, fishing, sports and other few things amidst keeping my woman always smiling…
Favorite books, movies, shows, music, and food

Ok, he’s got a certain… unique… mmm… narrative style… which might work for a… short.. novel.. about a guy…
Ok, I plead guilty to being choosy. Sorry. Not sorry. For now, it seems it’ll be my day I fall in love with. How lucky I am for that!

I know, huh? more like zero% compatible. Ok Cupid is just a tad off on all their calculations. I guess they try to stay optimistic, but it ends up fantasy. 🙂 xo, g.

So what is the 53 percent compatible part? Sheesh. Well great piece of writing. Witty, funny, engaging and real. Sorry Shawn is not your guy. Are you being choosy? Maybe there are some redeeming parts in the 53 percent. Lol. ❤️U

Dearest Terri. Sorry. Not sorry. I love being choosy. I actually kind of like Shawn’s writing style. The unique use of puntuation, grammar, lack of spaces. The tangents. The lengthiness then brevity. Ok, maybe Shawn and I are 3% compatible. But only on the page. Love you! xo, g
